The Virginia ODP '96 Girls qualified for the US Youth Soccer ODP National Championship by winning Region 1 in June 2011. March 9 - 11, 2012, the Regional Champions Virginia, Michigan, Florida, and California South will meet in Frisco, Texas to determine the Champion.

Courage Gold 95 Heads to State Cup Final Four Weekend!!!

For the 4th time out of 5 years, the Courage Gold team has succeeded in reaching the Semi-finals of the Virginia State Cup. They will play a tough BRYC team at 3:00 pm on Saturday at the Hampton Road Soccer Complex in Virginia Beach. The winner of that game proceeds to the Finals at 1:00 pm on Sunday at the Princess Anne Soccer Complex.

PWSI is proud to have 3 teams still in the running for the state championship - the PWSI Courage 94 Red Boys team, the PWSI Courage 96 Red Girls team, and the PWSI Courage 95 Gold Girls team. Good luck to all our teams!!!

Prince William Soccer, Inc. has a long tradition of success. Perhaps the Northern Virginia club's most talented product, Ali Krieger, shined this summer at the FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany.

A five-time Virginia State Cup champion during her youth career, Krieger's penalty kick clinched one of the most dramatic wins in sports history for the U.S. National Team during their amazing match against Brazil in the Women's World Cup quarterfinals this summer.

Unsurprisingly, there are high hopes for the latest PWSI team to attract college scouts' attention, PWSI Courage Gold '95. The team holds the 2011 Region 1 title and a sixth-place national ranking – the only Virginia squad in the top 20.
In their last college showcase, the Courage netted 16 goals in four games to easily take the OBGC Capital Cup.

The story in their WAGS Tournament match on Sunday was no different. Courage Gold faced the DMCV Sharks of Southern California, who are ranked 231 spots below the Courage.

With three forwards up top and a solid midfield, it's no wonder the Courage have strong scoring records. Midfielder Annah Lindberg showed off creative moves in the middle for PWSI, but they could not place shots on frame.

Ashley Skertic finally gave PWSI the lead after rebounding her own corner kick and rocketing a shot to the near post. The Sharks did have several opportunities to tie the game before halftime, but lacked shooting accuracy.

Cassidy Rowell dominated the air for the Courage in the second half, scoring two consecutive goals off set-piece headers. By the final whistle, PWSI had notched an easy 3-0 win over the Sharks, who made a cross-country trip to play in this year's WAGS tournament.

Courage Gold settled for a 1-1 draw against HMMS Eagle FC Force on Monday, completing a 2-0-1 weekend mark having scored eight goals and allowed just one in their three games.

US Youth Soccer Announces 2011-2012 National League Teams

The National League is an extension of the highly successful US Youth Soccer Regional Leagues [US Youth Soccer Region I (East) Premier League, Midwest Regional League, Region III (South) Premier League and Far West Regional League] in which the top teams are eligible to continue the path of success into the National League where the ultimate prize is qualifying for the prestigious US Youth Soccer National Championships.

2011-2012 increases the National League's reach with 32 of the 55 US Youth Soccer State Associations, from Region I (East): Connecticut, Eastern New York, Eastern Pennsylvania, Maryland, Pennsylvania West, New Jersey, New York West and Virginia; from Region II (Midwest): Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio North, Ohio South and Wisconsin; from Region III (South): Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, North Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Texas and Tennessee; from Region IV (West): Arizona, California South, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Washington.

The seven game season will begin with the girls in Atlanta, Ga. alongside the Atlanta College Showcase and the NCAA Women's College Cup Dec. 1-4. The boys kickoff in Birmingham, Ala. Dec. 8-11 at the Collegiate Championship Soccer and Junior Showcases, coinciding with the NCAA Men's College Cup. Teams will participate in one of two other locations per gender consisting of girls' Dec. 31-Jan 2 at the Disney Soccer Showcase in Orlando, Fla., and boys' competition Feb. 18-20 at the Weston Cup and Showcase in Florida. The final play date will combine boys and girls in Las Vegas March 23-25 and be held in conjunction with the Player's College Showcase. The complete schedule will be announced on USYouthSoccer.org in mid-September.

The first place team from each division age group, Under-15 through Under-17, will earn a spot to the 2012 US Youth Soccer National Championships along with the four US Youth Soccer Regional Champions.

The national championships are the culmination of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series where the nation's champions are crowned in six age groups for boys and girls.

Since its inception, National League teams have captured a combined 13 national championships. In 2008, seven of the eight championship finals slots in the Under-15 and 16 age groups were won by National League teams, which resulted in the League's first four national championships. The League notched four more National Championship titles in 2009 including the Under-15 Boys and Girls, as well as Under-16 Boys and Under-17 Girls. At the 2010 National Championships, League participants took home titles in the Under-15 Boys and Under-17 Girls age groups. And in 2011, eight National League teams advanced to the National Championship game and claimed three more national titles.

As is the case with the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series events and the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program, the National League creates another significant opportunity for the nation's collegiate, professional and national team staffs to see players in an environment of meaningful play.

The U15 Virginia team had 2 wins and a tie to secure a spot in the Regional Semi-final in Kirkwood, Delaware. They defeated a tough Eastern PA team 1-0 with a breakaway goal by forward Ashley Skertic in the early minutes of the game. In the high scoring game versus Western PA, a hat trick by midfielder Annah Lindberg helped secure the 4-4 tie. Against Eastern NY, Skertic's early header found the back of the net. The rest of the game was a hard fought battle with both teams having opportunities to score.

If the team can defeat West Virginia in the semi-final, they will meet either Maryland or New York West for the Final. The Regional Champions will then compete at Nationals in March 2012.

The ODP Tournament, also known as Rider Cup, begins this weekend in New Jersey. Four Courage '95 Gold players have been selected to represent Virginia against teams from the other states in US Region 1. Region 1 extends from Maine south to West Virginia.

Emily Lung will participate with Virginia A in the U16 age group. Her team will play teams from Connecticut, Pennsylvania West, and Maryland.

Niomi Serrano will play for Virginia B in the U16 age group. (They are a U15 team playing up for this tournament.) Her teams will play teams from Eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Eastern New York.

Annah Lindberg and Ashley Skertic are on the U15 Virginia team. Their team will play teams from Eastern Pennsylvania, Western Pennsylvania, and Eastern New York.

Today the Courage '96 Red Girls won the Virginia State Cup and qualified to attend the Region 1 National Championship. The Courage '97 Red Girls came in 2nd in the state, and will also get to attend the Regionals.

They join the Courage '95 Gold team which qualified for the Region 1 National Championship by winning the Region 1 Premier League. This is the first time ever that 3 Girls teams from PWSI have qualified to attend the Region 1 National Championship in the same year!

The ‘95 Gold team rose above adversity to capture the Premier League crown for U15 girls. Saturday’s match was against a tough World Class Soccer Team from New York. Defender Jordan Kestel scored first on a long direct kick perfectly placed. Later in the first half, Niomi Serrano passed the ball to Melanie Lytle who fired a rocket past the keeper. World Class refused to give up and tied the score in the 2^nd half. The final goal was put in the net by Jewel Christian on an assist from Annah Lindberg. The 3-2 victory allowed the Courage Gold to proceed to the Final on Sunday against Match Fit Chelsea from New Jersey.

It was a battle of the unbeaten Premier League North and South Champions. In the first half, Ashley Skertic placed a corner kick into the box and Annah Lindberg headed the ball into the net. Both teams continued to battle until the final whistle, but the strong defensive play and goalkeeping prevented any other goals.

Despite injuries and fatigue from busy high school soccer schedules, Courage Gold under the leadership of Coach Chris Jones dug deep, kept the focus on team, and found the collective heart and will to achieve a goal set back in the Fall. This Championship qualifies the team to compete against the Region 1 state champions in late June for an opportunity to qualify for the National Championship. The PWSI Courage ‘95 Gold would like to thank PWSI for their support and encouragement.

Kovar played the ball forward from the defensive half of the field and Lindberg outran the Brentsville defense to the ball. With Tigers goalkeeper Gillian Lowe backpedaling after initially coming out to play the ball, Lindberg sent a 20-yard shot into the net for a 1 - 0 lead."

Sara Lott Memorial/Saunders 5K/ 1 mile Fun Run

The Sara Lott Memorial / Saunders 5K / 1 mile Fun Run is April 30th at 8am at Saunders Middle School. The proceeds from the Fun Run benefit the Sara Lott Memorial Scholarship Fund. It was established in memory of Sara Lott who played for MCSA and NVSC from 2002 to 2008. She played on U6 through U12 teams as a Recreational player and progressed to a Jr. Majestics Travel player. She began playing in the field and quickly gravitated to the goalkeeping position. In her last years she advanced to the ODP level. The Scholarship fund provides awards to female goalkeepers around Sara's age group; U12 - U16, that can benefit from additional, specific goalkeeper training to enhance their skills to support their teams. It pays for a fall season of individual or group training for a goalkeeper depending on their needs. Since the fund was started in 2008 there have been 7 recipients of this award throughout the Northern VA region.

We are proud that our goalie, Arianna Reichardt, won a Sara Lott Goalkeeper Scholarship in 2010. She and the team benefited from the extra training.

Many of our Courage 95 Gold girls knew and played soccer with Sara. She is missed by all.

Third Place at Jefferson Cup

After a disappointing Saturday, including a 2 - 0 loss against an excellent SAC team and a 0 - 0 tie with the NC Fusion Elite, our Gold found the goal on Sunday. The '95 Gold team defeated World Class FC 95 with a score of 6 - 2. Goals were scored by Jessica Leonard, Colleen Gawkins (2), Jewel Christian (2), and Cassidy Rowell.

The consolation game was against Hockessin SC Blast. After getting behind by a goal, Jordan Kestel scored a header goal off a corner from Ashley Skertic. Emily Lung and Annah Lindberg also added goals. The final score was 3 - 1.

Excellent defensive play by Arianna Reichardt, Jordan Kestel, Siobhan O'Toole, Bertha Martinez, Thyla Peterson, and Rachel Marion kept the Gold in the games all weekend.

Tiger Girls Aim For State Title

Gold players, Cassidy Rowell and Rachel Marion are on the Brentsville High School Varsity Girls Soccer Team. The team did very well in the run for the Virginia State Championship in 2010, and are hoping to do even better this year. "Coach Sean Weddell states ' This is probably the strongest team we've had.' " He sited midfielder, Cassidy Rowell, as their most talented freshman. Cassidy was also a varsity basketball stand-out, and has been selected to attend the FBLA conference. Rachel Marion was a member of the 2011 Track Team. Her relay placed 13th at States this year.

Jewel Christian, Annah Lindberg, Thyla Peterson, and Ashley Skertic are headed to the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida to participate in the Super Y League Olympic Development Program (ODP) National Camp. Each nominated player was identified as one of the top 2% of players in their age group from the 2010 Super Y season while playing on the U14 Northern Virginia Majestic team. The Majestics became repeat USL Super Y North American Champions last November. The camp will be directed by Peter Mellor, U.S. National Technical Director.
This is the 2nd time Annah Lindberg has been selected to the National Camp. Last Spring, Lindberg's excellent play earned her a berth on the National Team Pool.

Four '95 Gold Players Selected for ODP Friendlies

Emily Lung, Annah Lindberg, Niomi Serrano, and Ashley Skertic will participate on Virginia ODP teams during the Williamsburg Friendlies. They will compete against the top ODP teams from U.S. Soccer Regions I, II, and III.

Stone Bridge sophmore, Emily Lung will participate with the '95 Virginia team. She is a strong midfielder who played on the 2010 High School Championship team, and has played on the '95 Virginia ODP team for 4 years. In 2009, she was selected to the ODP Region I Pool. In 2010, she participated in the ODP Interregional National Camp.

Lindberg, Serrano, and Skertic will participate with the '96 Virginia teams. Forest Park freshman, Annah Lindberg was selected to the USL ODP National Pool in 2010, and is returning to the USL ODP National Camp this Spring. Lindberg is a scoring threat from forward or midfield positions.

Colonial Forge freshman, Niomi Serrano has been a member of the Virginia State ODP Pool and participated in the ODP Regional Camp since 2008. Serrano plays forward and relentlessly attacks her opponents' goals.

Benton 8th grader, Ashley Skertic has been a member of the Virginia State ODP Pool since 2010. Skertic, a quick footed midfielder, attended the ODP Regional Camp in 2010 and has been selected to attend the USL ODP National Camp this Spring.

To qualify for the scholarship, Arianna submitted an essay describing how soccer affected her life and helped develop her character. She also submitted recommendations from her coach, trainer and a teacher. She was awarded $1000 to use for training during the 2010-2011 soccer year. After being 30 seconds away from elimination during group play two days earlier, capturing their second consecutive Super Y-League North American Finals title was especially sweet for the Northern Virginia Majestics. The Majestics needed penalty kicks to get the job done for the second consecutive day, defeating the Chicago Fire Juniors by a 5-4 margin following a scoreless tie.

Central defender Jordan Kestel produced the winning kick in the sixth round, and even that produced its own level of drama as Kestel’s high shot hit the crossbar, bounced straight down and then back up off the crossbar and into the net. It forced Kestel’s teammates, primed to rush the field to celebrate, to do a studder-step on the sidelines before piling on their team MVP.

"Obviously you’ve got to be proud of the girls," Majestics Head Coach Chris Jones said. "Two days in a row penalty kicks and all the players came up huge."

After ninety grueling minutes and an additional twenty of overtime, the U14 Northern Virginia Majestics and Washington Freedom faced penalty kicks to resolve the scoreless morning in the Super Y-League North American Championship semifinal match Monday morning in Tampa, Florida. Both sides showed their grit and resilience by remaining deadlocked after ten penalty kicks each, but Northern Virginia goalkeeper Ari Reichardt finally decided the stalemate in dramatic fashion with a low blast untouched into the right corner.

Fresh off a dramatic victory the night before, the Majestics squared off against a Freedom squad filled with familiar faces from the Northern Virginia and DC metro area. Each side launched numerous aggressive attacks forward, only to find their efforts thwarted by sturdy defensive lines throughout the match and overtime. Although scoring opportunities were rare, each squad exhibited quality play through the midfield to no avail.

As fatigue became apparent on the faces and wobbly knees of the players, the referee’s whistle sounded to end the second overtime period and the start of penalty kick tie-breakers. The initial round of five kicks concluded with an athletic save from each keeper, but could not produce a decision. Five rounds later, Reichardt found herself in an unusual position, lining up to shoot the ball rather than deflect a penalty kick. With twelve yards and a solid Washington keeper separating herself and a victory for her team, Reichardt calmly strode to penalty spot and struck true to launch the ecstatic Majestics into the title match.

The U14 Majestics face a rematch with the Chicago Fire Junior to defend their North American title earned in 2009. Northern Virginia and Chicago met in the group rounds, with the Majestics emerging victorious on a last minute own goal to win.

NVFC, comprised of the Northern Virginia Royals (male), Northern Virginia Majestics (female), and NOVA FC (male and female) USL teams, is also represented by thirty-three players in the previous SYL ODP Camp pool announced last February. Thirty-two players from the Royals, Majestics, and NOVA FC Super Y-League programs comprised Northern Virginia’s representation the previous year.

The USL North American Finals will be held in Tampa, Florida, and is scheduled to run from November 19th through November 23rd. A total of sixteen teams will clash at every age level in the boys Super Y-League’s U13-U17 divisions. On the girls side, twelve teams will meet from each of the five age divisions. The 2010 version of the Super Y-League finals is the greatest representative of elite youth talent in North America now that the league encompasses nine regions across the United States and Canada.

United Soccer Leagues announced today the player selections for the Super Y-League’s Olympic Development Program (ODP) National Camps to be held at the IMG Academies in Bradenton, Florida next February. Northern Virginia FC is well represented on the list of chosen attendees, claiming thirty spots in the national elite pool.

Each nominated player has been identified as one of the top players in their birth year, and among the top 2% of players in the previous 2010 Super Y-League season.

The Super Y-League ODP camp represents an elite group of players coming together to display their soccer talent and work ethic to collegiate and national team scouts. The ODP focus groups this year will be for the top players (216 Girls & 216 Boys) born in either 1994/1995 or 1996/1997. The additional lists showing those players born in 1992 & 1993 are posted to recognize the top players from those birth years. That list will be promoted to over 1,000 colleges as well as to the USSF National Staff or the Canadian Soccer Association.

USL National Technical Director Peter Mellor, who has spent the past 18 years as a member of the U.S. National Staff and 25 years as an ODP coach, will direct the camps.

“Our Super Y ODP program continues to offer talented players from throughout North America a chance to reach the next level,” Mellor said. “As a coach or as a player, whether you’re at the competitive youth level or the professional level, you want a great environment to play, train and compete in. There’s no better environment than IMG.”

Mellor is keenly familiar with the facility having been a longtime assistant coach for the U.S. Under-17 program, based at IMG. In addition to moving to the facility, Mellor is also aiming to upgrade the quality of experience and coaching for the players attending the camps, with IMG’s facilities offering a great setting to implement those improvements.

“One of the components we’re going to introduce this year for the first time is mental conditioning so our athletes understand the demands of the game and how to deal with them,” Mellor said. “We’re also going to film and analyze the players, and we’re going to provide a college recruitment seminar for players and parents to help them through the process.

“We’re also exploring the possibility of arranging exhibitions against international teams for our ODP All-Star teams on the final day of the camps, which is very exciting.”

Northern Virginia Football Club, comprised of the Northern Virginia Royals (male), Northern Virginia Majestics (female), and NOVA FC (male and female) USL teams, is represented by seven teams in the 2010 North American Finals as well as thirty-three players in the previous SYL ODP Camp pool.

TAMPA, Fla. -- The 12-team field for the Girls U14 Division of United Soccer Leagues’ Super Y-League North American Finals has been completed, with reigning U13 champions the Northern Virginia Majestics returning to try and add a second title at the tournament scheduled for November 19-23 in Tampa, Fla.

The Majestics picked up where they left off in 2009 over the summer, going 9-1-0 in the South Atlantic Division, the only tie a 1-1 draw in their opening game against fellow qualifier the Richmond Kickers. The goal the Majestics conceded in that contest was the only one they allowed throughout the season, outscoring their opponent 47-1 in 10 league games. Annah Lindberg led the Majestics offense with 16 goals.

While falling in their second contest with Northern Virginia, Richmond also had a strong summer, going 8-1-1 to finish three points behind the Majestics. The Kickers balanced squad saw eight players finish with multiple goals, Katherine Cousins leading the way with seven.

The side Northern Virginia defeated in last season’s U13 final also returns, with the Rage SC from Reading, Pa. winning Group B of the Mid Atlantic Division with a 9-0-1 record. Emily Diehl scored 10 goals in as many games for the Rage, who edged out fellow qualifier the Washington Freedom (8-1-1) by two points.

Match Fit Chelsea from Bayonne, N.J. won Group A in the division, losing only once in its 16-game schedule to finish with a record of 11-4-1. In a highly competitive group, MFC won almost half of its games by just a goal, including a 2-1 victory against group runner-up the Long Island Rough Riders on June 13.

Long Island also finished with only one loss, but finished six points behind MFC thanks to a large number of draws to leave the Rough Riders with a record of 8-7-1. Both teams will be joined in Tampa by the Perugia Grifos, who finished third in Group A. The Grifos finished ahead of Quickstrike FC on goal difference within their own group and held a higher point percentage than Group B third-place finisher Real Maryland FC to advance.

Coastal FC, which advanced to the U13 semifinals in 2009, won the Pacific Northwest Division, but it came down to the final day of the season for the club as it edged out Coquitlam Metro-Ford by a point as both sides drew in their final contests.

CMF earned four points from its contests with Coastal, but a run of draws allowed to Coastal to capitalize and take a one point lead for the only qualification berth from the group. On July 18, Coastal played to a 0-0 tie with Mountain FC, giving CMF an opening to jump them with a victory, but CMF were held to a scoreless draw on the same day by third-placed Thompson-Okanagan FC to send Coastal through.

Single teams also advanced out of the New England and Southeast Divisions, with Seacoast United claiming the berth from the New England Division with a 2-1 victory in their penultimate game against the MPS Lady Knights. Goals from Kendall Ham and Courtney Benson gave Seacoast victory and a seven-point cushion over the Lady Knights, who had only two games remaining.

West Pines clinched the berth from the Southeast Division in style, winning all eight of its games without conceding a goal. Melanie Monteagudo led the team with nine goals in eight games as 10 different players found the scoresheet throughout the season.

Rounding out the field are the two qualifiers from the competitive Midwest Division, which was won by the Chicago Fire Juniors from Michigan. The Fire finished with a record of 6-3-1 as eight points separated the top five teams in the division. The Cleveland Internationals finished a point behind the Fire, going undefeated through the season with a record of 5-5-0.

Both sides also had a pair of players who finished with six goals apiece, the Fire’s Isabella Fiorenzo and Mariah Otolski and the Internationals’ Marissa Milazzo and Emily Ogle all finishing tied for the league lead.

With two games remaining in the 2010 Super Y-League South Atlantic regular season, the U14 Northern Virginia Majestics guaranteed themselves a return trip to Tampa following a 2-0 defeat of instate rival Richmond Kickers. The young Majestics return to the North American Finals after going undefeated at the tournament a year ago to claim the Super Y-League continental title at the U13 age group.

The U14 Majestics claimed an automatic spot into the United Soccer Leagues Youth North American Finals following two winning results this week, knocking off Fredericksburg 3-0 on Tuesday evening before beating the Kickers on the following afternoon. With two berths awarded to the U14 South Atlantic Division, the wins guaranteed the Majestics a first or second place finish in the grouping.

Northern Virginia currently remains in a tie with Richmond for first place atop the division in points, however the upstart Majestics hold both a head-to-head advantage and a game in-hand over the Kickers. The Majestics also hold a healthy plus 32 goal differential advantage in the division, assuring them the top seed with a win in either of their two remaining games.

With games still remaining against Triangle FC and NOVA FC, the Majestics have only given up a single goal for the 2010 season so far. In 2009, the Majestics gave up only two goals on the year, one during the regular season and one in the 3-1 North American Finals championship match victory against Rage SC.

Several other Northern Virginia youth teams are within reach of qualifying in their respective age groups over the next week of play. On the boy’s side, the U14 Royals have nearly clinched while the U15 and U16 Royals each are closing in on championship spots. The U16 NOVA FC boys also remain in contention for one of two championship bids in that age group. The U15 Majestics could earn the trip to Tampa with a Wednesday win over Triangle this week and the U16 Majestics remain alive on the girl’s side.

The USL did not field a South Atlantic Division in the U17 age groups for boys or girls in 2010.

The U13 Majestics Super Y League team made up of the players from the NVSC Jr. Majestics 95 Gold travel team swept the competition and clenched the Super Y-League (SYL) North American Championship title at Ed Radice Soccer Complex in Tampa, Florida.

The U13 Majestics capped a perfect (12-0-0) 2009 Super Y league season with 35 goals for and just 1 goal against. The team’s record captured the South East Region and classified the Northern Virginia Majestics as the top seed going into the North American Championship Tournament.

The 2009 season centered on a well balanced team starting with a “Solid Wall” Defense (Goalie- Arianna Reichardt, Defensive Backs- Brianna Aldo, Olivia DuPont, Jordan Kestel, Bertha Martinez and Siobahn O’Toole), a “Controlling” Mid-Field (Maggie Chapman, Jessica Leonard, Ashley Skertic and Cassidy Rowell) and “Fast & Furious” Forwards (Jewel Christian, Dixie Johnson, Annah Lindberg and Thyla Peterson).

The U13 Majestics took their “shut them down and attack” formula into the North American National Super Y League Tournament and out classed their competition. Through teamwork and communication, they shut out their preliminary competition (3-0-0) with 8 goals for and 0 against. The Defensive Wall frustrated their opponents’ scoreless advances allowing the Midfielders to press the ball goal-ward to the “ever attacking” and focused Forwards. The team extended this formula into the semi-finals defeating Coastal FC (3–0).

The Championship game against Rage SC started quickly with the defense and midfielders controlling the ball and generating an early strike by Jewel Christian. The Defense kept the Rage out of their goal box for most of the game and a pair of goals from Annah Lindberg proved enough to capture the 2009 North American Championship (3-1). Lindberg’s efforts won her the SYL Tournament MVP. Coach Chris Jones, his first national title, praised the team's efforts, "Their teamwork and motivation lead to a classy tournament win."

The four-day tournament featured the top SYL clubs in the United States and Canada. The North American tournament title capped a perfect 17-0-0 season for Northern Virginia in the squad’s first SYL season.

Super-Y enhances the year round development of NVSC players and provides the opportunity to play Top Rated Nationally ranked teams. Teams train and compete over the summer season for the North American Finals held in November.

TAMPA, FLORIDA – United Soccer Leagues announced today the Super Y-League All-Tournament Team Selections for the U13 Girls North American Finals, which were held Friday, November 20 through Tuesday, November 24 at Ed Radice Soccer Complex in Northwest Tampa, Florida. The Northern Virginia Majestics championed the U13 Girls Division with a 3-1 win over Rage SC in the final. USL will release the U13-U17 All-Tournament Teams through Wednesday, December 16.

U13 Girls Leading Scorers

The top goalscorer in the U13 girls’ tournament, Melanie Monteagudo netted five goals and an assist for West Pines United in three days. Her efforts earned a nod from each of the three coaches she faced, Nordic Soccer Club, who West Pines beat, 2-1 on the opening day of competition. On day two West Pines lost, 1-0 to tournament finalist, Rage SC before beating Mequon United 4-2 on the final day of group play. Monteagudo scored three of the team’s four goals in that match. West Pines also had goalkeeper, Jennifer Ocampo named to the All-Tournament squad.

A deep squad, the Majestics got eight goals and two assists from Annah Lindberg and Christian Jewel. But it was Maggie Chapman, who handed out six assists during the tournament that caught the eye of the scouts. She earned a vote in each match she played, with the exception of the semifinal. In that match, Lindberg stood out by netting a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over Coastal WFC. The second Majestic’s player voted to the All-Tournament Team was defender Jordan Kestel, who earned a vote in both the semifinal and championship matches.

Coastal’s leading vote-getter during the North American Finals was forward Sophie Beaudry, who scored nine goals and added three assists during the Super Y-League regular season. Janna Speed earned a vote for her efforts in the semifinal loss to Northern Virginia. She tallied in the team’s 2-0 win over the MPS Renegades on Sunday, November 22. Also scoring in that match was Madison Higginbotham.

The runner-up, Rage SC had goalkeeper Caitlyn Gannon named to the team for her performance in the team’s 3-2 overtime win over the Washington Freedom in the semfinal. Both from the Mid Atlantic Region, these teams met earlier in the year resulting in a similar result, a 3-2 decision that ended in favor of the Rage in regulation. The second Rage player named to the All-Tournament Team was midfielder Ivory Bailey, who was picked out by opposing coaches in both the semifinal and final.

The Freedom had midfielder Margaret Purce and forward Jaelin White named to the All-Tournament team. Purce netted two goals and handed out four assists in as many matches. White scored a goal and added two assists. The Freedom’s leading scorers were Antonia Vrorsky, who had three goals and Brianna Hollins, who had four goals and an assist.lections were based off the nominations of opposing coaches made throughout tournament play. The Majestics captured the U13 national championship with a 3-1 victory over Rage SC in Tampa.

During the five day tournament, Chapman had six assists as a starting midfielder. Kestel was rewarded for exceptional play in the semifinals and championship match.

TAMPA – Annah Lindberg was named the Super Y League championship most valuable player on Tuesday after leading the U13 Northern Virginia Majestics to the North American Championship.
Lindberg scored two goals in the Majestics’ 3-1 victory over the Pennsylvania Rage, while Jewel Christian also tallied a goal.

The championship performance capped a 17-0-0 season for the Majestics in their first Super Y season.

It is the third national title for the Majestics program, following titles by the U18 squad in 2001 and the U19 team in 2005.

A cross from Ashley Skertic set up Christian’s goal to give Northern Virginia the early lead. Fif-teen minutes later, Maggie Chapman sent a corner kick into the Rage penalty area, setting up the first goal from Lindberg and a 2-0 halftime advantage.

On the final goal, Chapman sent a pass into the left corner of the box on a crisp pass along the ground. Lindberg collected the ball in full stride a rocketed her shot untouched into the Rage goal.
The Majestics were one of four unbeaten teams in the U13 girls bracket.

They posted the lone perfect 3-0-0 record in group play, including a 2-0 result against the previously undefeated Kings Soccer Academy (Cincinnati). After topping Coquitlam SC (British Columbia) 4-0 on the second day of play, Northern Virginia won a hard fought 2-0 result over the Washington Freedom to ad-vance into the semifinals.

The Majestics finished group play without giving up a goal and continued their tournament shutout downing Coastal WFC 3-0 in the semifinal match.

“After seeing a large amount of talent at all age groups throughout the weekend, I think the best term to describe our U13s is poise,” said club general manager Tim Schweitzer. “This special group of young ladies plays a very stylish and creative game, never appearing hurried or rattled.

“They are highly entertaining and truly a pleasure to watch.”

An early strike by Majestic Jewel Christian and a pair of goals from teammate Annah Lindberg proved enough to triumph over the Rage (Pennsylvania) in the hard-fought final match.

Lindberg was named SYL Tournament MVP for her efforts throughout the four-day tournament featuring the top SYL clubs in the United States and Canada.

The North American tournament title capped a perfect 17-0-0 season for Northern Virginia in the squad’s first SYL season.

The U13 victory marks the third SYL North American Championship title brought home by the Majestics. Northern Virginia previously won the U18 SYL National Championship in 2001 and U19 SYL Continental Championship in 2005.

A cross from Majestic Ashley Skertic set up a blast from Christian into the goal for the 1-0 Northern Virginia lead. Fifteen minutes later, Maggie Chapman sent a driven corner kick into the Rage penalty area, setting up the first goal from Lindberg and a 2-0 half-time advantage.

The Rage fell victim to the Chapman-Lindberg combination again in the second half. Midfielder Chapman fed the streaking Lindberg into the left corner of the box on a crisp pass along the ground. Lindberg collected the ball in full stride a rocketed her shot untouched into the Rage goal to cap the Majestic scoring on the day.

The Rage fought hard in the waning minutes and were rewarded for their efforts when Emily Diehl’s shot found the back of the Majestic net for only the second time in the entire 2009 season.

The Majestics were one of four unbeaten teams in the U13 Girls bracket. They posted the lone perfect 3-0-0 record in group play, including a 2-0 result against the previously undefeated Kings Soccer Academy (Cincinnati). After topping Coquitlam SC (British Columbia) 4-0 on the second day of play, Northern Virginia won a hard fought 2-0 result over the Washington Freedom to advance into the semifinals.

The upstart Majestics finished group play without giving up a goal and continued their tournament shutout downing Coastal WFC 3-0 in the semifinal match.

“After seeing a large amount of talent at all age groups throughout the weekend, I think the best term to describe our U13s is poise,” commented club General Manager Tim Schweitzer. “This special group of young ladies plays a very stylish and creative game, never appearing hurried or rattled.”

“They are highly entertaining and truly a pleasure to watch,” concluded Schweitzer.

WOODBRIDGE, VA – With three weeks remaining in the 2009 Super Y-League South Atlantic regular season, Northern Virginia has asserted its dominance within the division at the U13 level. The U13 NOVA FC Boys and U13 Majestics teams both claimed automatic berths into the United Soccer Leagues Youth North American Finals following results against the Richmond Kickers on Friday. The U13 Royals also remain in tight contention for the last remaining South Atlantic spot in the championship tournament, as they currently hold second place in the division.

On the girl’s side of the brackets, the South Atlantic division promised tough competition, as only the first place team would earn the single assigned berth into the North American Finals. With only one of seven teams qualifying for the championships, the U13 Majestics have rocketed to a season record of 10-0-0 so far to lock down their division, scoring 31 goals while not allowing any against them. The Florida-bound Majestics cruised by Richmond 3-0 Friday, mathematically eliminating the other six South Atlantic teams in contention for the divisional title.

The U13 NOVA FC Boys (8-1-0) hold the divisional lead by three points with three games remaining, assuring them one of two South Atlantic divisional berths to the championships. If the upstart NOVA Boys were to not to earn another point over the next two weeks of their season, the only team that could overtake them would be the U13 Royals. NOVA FC solidified their bid in the finals with three wins in three days on a lengthy road trip to Georgia. The U13 NOVA Boys defeated the Atlanta Silverbacks, Alpharetta United, and the Atlanta Fire, scoring 17 goals while allowing only 2 over the weekend.

The U13 Royals (6-1-3) have two games remaining and maintain a tight lead over Alpharetta United and the Richmond Kickers for the last finals spot. Still controlling their own destiny, the young Royals can cinch up their trip to Tampa with a win and a tie in their final matches.

Several other Northern Virginia youth teams are on the verge of qualifying in their respective age groups. On the boy’s side, the U14 and U15 Royals are each one win away from winning their groups while the U16 and U17 Royals each are closing in on championship crowns. The U14 and U16 Majestics are both locked in multiple-team races for first place in their respective divisions on the girl’s side.

The USL North American Finals will be held in Tampa, Florida, and is scheduled to run from November 19th through November 22nd. A total of sixteen teams will clash at every age level in the boys Super Y-League’s U13-U17 divisions. On the girls side, twelve teams will meet from each of the five age divisions. The 2009 version of the Super Y-League finals is the greatest representative of elite youth talent in North America now that the league encompasses nine regions across the United States and Canada.

Royals, Majestics, and NOVA FC Youth Remain Strong in South Atlantic

The Northern Virginia Royals, Northern Virginia Majestics, and NOVA FC Super Y-League teams reached the midpoint of the 2009 season with teams in either first or second in most age groups. Together, the club combined for eighteen wins, four ties, and thirteen losses the previous weekend of play against Alpharetta United, Atlanta Silverbacks, and Richmond Kickers USL teams.

The Royals and Majestics Super Y-League teams were extraordinarily successful against the Atlanta Silverbacks boys and girls teams, posting an 8-0 record on the day. Northern Virginia scored a combined total of 32 goals and did not allow Atlanta a single mark on the scoreboard, completely shutting out the visiting Silverbacks.

Alpharetta United proved a much more difficult challenge, as results were mixed across the age groups. Northern Virginia finished essentially even with Alpharetta at four wins, four losses, and three ties. United gave the U16 Royals their first loss of the season, a 3-0 result that highlighted some very strong Alpharetta forwards.

The U13 Majestics scored 10 goals in two victories over their Georgia opponents. Annah Lindberg scored all of the Majestics goals in the 4-0 win over Alpharetta and goalkeeper Arriana Reichhardt kept the Majestics slate clean, not allowing a single goal over the weekend. However, the Majestics were given a run for their money four days later by their sister team, just barely edging the U13 NOVA FC girls 1-0.

The U14 Majestics were equally triumphant, boasting a 4-1 and 5-0 pair of wins to remain atop the South Atlantic Group B bracket.

Both the U13 and U14 Majestics remain undefeated on the season.

The U16 NOVA FC Boys team shut out the Richmond kickers on Saturday, June 27, posting a dramatic 2-0 result. Tied 0-0 at the half, NOVA FC wasted little time exerting their desire to come out on top by rattling off two unanswered goals early in the second half. Combined with relentless defensive pressure throughout the game, NOVA FC brought home their first win of the season.

The Royals are currently dominant on the boys side of the South Atlantic standings, occupying the first place slot on each division and/or group table. In the U13 South Atlantic bracket, the U13 NOVA FC boys remain only a single point behind the Royals. The U17 Royals share the first place with Alpharetta United following a scoreless draw against each other last week.

NOVA FC Teams Begin Season, Super 20 Royals and Majestics Remain Perfect

The Northern Virginia Royals, Northern Virginia Majestics, and NOVA FC Super Y-League teams finished the first full weekend of competition in the 2009 season, squaring off against the Atlanta Fire at the younger age groups. Together, the club combined for eight wins, three ties, and three losses to end the weekend of play against the Fire, Meck Union, and East Tennessee USL teams.

Saturday morning saw both the U13 Royals and U13 Majestics earn shutout wins over the Atlanta Fire in their first Super Y-league match experiences. Saturday afternoon featured the Super 20 programs, as the NOVA FC men drew 0-0 with East Tennessee and the partner Royals cruised passed Meck Union 2-0. After finishing the first half even at a goal apiece, the Northern Virginia Majestics Super 20 squad pummeled Meck Union women with four unanswered goals to reach 3-0-0 on the early season.

Sunday featured the inaugural matches by several NOVA FC teams as they enter into competition in the USL Super Y-league for the first time. In the younger age groups, The U13 NOVA girls finish even with the Fire at 0-0, while the U14 NOVA girls fell 2-0 in the following match. The U15 and U16 NOVA FC girls scored two goals each for victories in their first outings, 2-1 and 2-0 results respectively.

The U16 NOVA FC boys tied Atlanta 1-1, but the younger U14 NOVA boys doused the Fire with 7-1 score line.

Mech Union rebounded on Sunday, earning a 3-2 win over the Super 20 NOVA FC women. The Super 20 Royals raced past East Tennessee, scoring four goals in the shutout to cap off the afternoon.
